On 16th August 2024, I attended a Grant writing workshop hosted by the Bingu School of Culture and Heritage with the aim of equipping staff with essential skills for crafting successful grant proposals. This initiative is part of the school's commitment to capacity building and supporting the professional growth of its staff.
Dr. Tiwonge Mzumara Gawa, the Project Manager for SAVE at the Malawi University of Science and Technology facilitated the workshop emphasizing the importance of grant writting in achieving academic freedom. She highlighted how access to funding enables academics to pursue specific research interests and hire necessary support. By the end of the training staff members were encouraged to think creatively about securing funding for impactful projects.
One of the participants who was also the youngest at the training expressed delight over the training saying it has equiped her with new skills. This was a clear indication of how crucial such trainings are to institutions like MUST.
This empowering session marked an important step in BISCH's ongoing support for staff development and innovation in research.
