MID-YEAR CHECK IN/REFLECTION

At the beginning of every year, I set out both personal and professional goals, covering areas like family, spiritual growth, health, finances, research, and career development. These are not just resolutions; they’re intentional targets that I revisit regularly. But June is different.

June is my month of deep reflection. It marks the end of the first half of the year, and for me, it’s the perfect moment to pause, evaluate, and realign.

Here are the questions I sit with during this time:

What have I achieved so far?
What milestones have I hit, and what still needs to be done? Which areas are on track, and which ones have veered off course?

 What’s working—and what’s not?
Are my habits, routines, surroundings, and even the people around me helping me grow? Or are they distracting me from the path I’ve set?

What adjustments do I need to make?
Sometimes, it’s about tweaking my strategy. Other times, it’s about making bold decisions to let go of things that no longer serve my bigger vision.

Are there goals I need to postpone or let go of completely?
Let me be honest, this year I was overly ambitious. I had planned to enroll in a challenging course (#ContinuousLearning), but at the same time, I had placed heavy research demands on myself. After some reflection (and a few sad moments), I made the decision to postpone the course. Why? Because the research I’m currently doing lays the foundation for something bigger, something aligned with my long-term goals. And that matters more right now.

Are the goals I set at the beginning of the year still aligned with my broader life vision?
It’s so easy to get caught up in the “doing” that we forget to ask: Why am I doing this? Is this still the direction I want to go?

This process isn’t just helpful but rather necessary. Without reflection, we risk running fast in the wrong direction. And while I reflect continuously throughout the year, June is my checkpoint. It’s the month I slow down, refocus, and get intentional about how I want to finish the year.

You don’t have to wait for a new year to make changes. And you certainly don’t need permission to pivot.

If you haven’t done your mid-year check-in yet, I encourage you to take some quiet time and ask yourself: Am I still on track?

Here’s to finishing strong, With grace and growth,
