I had the great honor of representing the Vice Chancellor of the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), Prof. Address Malata, at a high-level meeting organized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
The meeting brought together key stakeholders from Malawi’s six public universities, including Chairs of University Councils, Vice Chancellors (or their representatives), and NCHE officials. It was an important platform for reflection, collaboration, and rethinking strategies that ensure we continue to deliver quality higher education amidst increasing demand.
One of the critical areas of discussion was the relevance of university programs in today’s fast-changing world. I shared thoughts on the need for tracer studies as an essential tool to assess whether our graduates are meeting the needs of industry and society, and to help determine if realignments or curriculum reforms are necessary. Quality and relevance must go hand in hand as we shape graduates who are not just employable, but also impact-driven and future-ready.
It was inspiring to see a unified commitment across institutions to uphold the standards of higher education and continuously improve the learning experience for our students.
At MUST, we remain committed to innovative, responsive, and high-quality education that serves national and regional development priorities.
